Renata Petrelli
Born in São Paulo, capital, from an early age enjoyed Rock n ‘Roll, under the influence of her mother who always liked bands like Black Sabbath, Creedance Clearwater, Deep Purple, Queen, Alice Cooper, Dire Straits, among others . It was by paying attention to Mark Knopfler’s guitars that, as a child, he decided that this would be his instrument. At the age of 13, he won his first guitar for right-handers (Renata is left-handed). However, the desire was for a guitar, winning the following year. It was then that the history with the guitar began. Years later, in college, she ended up going through turbulent times in life and found her escape in music.
“I usually say that I started to learn and improve myself with the guitar playing in the bands (and I’m still learning, of course)”, she adds. The idea from the beginning was always to make authorial sounds, following the example of bands that, throughout childhood and pre-adolescence, shaped their musical taste like Nirvana, Alice In Chains, Offspring, Metallica, Slayer and Megadeth, Helloween, Edguy, Hammerfall, and many others. And it was like that from the first moment.
“Of course, in my first band you end up playing a lot of cover songs. Nothing wrong, because it helped me learn. But I always wanted to make my own music. It was then that, using some programs that many of my generation know: Guitar Pro, I made some compositions and some, now, are more than 10 years old ”.
Time passed and the taste, mainly for grunge and power metal, was taken over by thrash metal. It was then that Petrelli began to have bands with more serious focuses: the first was the band HELLARISE, which he founded and even recorded an EP, being featured in Roadie Crew magazine in 2009, participating in the selective for the Wacken Open Air in São Paulo In the same year.
In 2012 he founded her project MARIE DOLLS, a band based on Hard Rock with a lot of grunge influence, recording an EP of 3 songs. In it, Petrelli composed and recorded the guitars and bass, calling vocalist Katherine Roiz to make the vocals. Shortly after, the project became a band and features Renata Petrelli on guitars, Michelle Campos on bass, Carol Ribas on drums and backing vocals, Ana Cruz on vocals and Aline Fernandes on guitars. The band remains active with songs ready for a future album.
In 2014, after a major overhaul, Petrelli joined the band SINAYA, which actively participated until February 2019, contributing mostly in the creative part (compositions and graphic arts). She had the opportunity to do 2 international tours in the years 2016 (South America) and 2018 (Europe).
So at the beginning of 2019 Renata ended up founding the band THE DAMNNATION, which marks a new phase, also taking risks as a vocalist. “The moment I found myself starting a new band, I thought I should try to sing, out of sheer need, logistically speaking. And, talking to some guitarists who went through the same situation and decided to sing, I was encouraged to try. Today I consider them as friends ”, says Petrelli. And before becoming a guitarist, she considers herself more as a composer.
